I see it day in and day out. In my life, the lives of the people that I coach online, and in the lives of my personal training clients. Whether you’re trying to tone up, lose those few extra pounds or totally change your fitness habits – it is incredibly difficult. It’s seems the entire earth is shouting, “COMFORT IS THE ANSWER, LIFE IS HARD, TAKE THE EASY WAY, START AGAIN TOMORROW!!
The whole process of starting (usually about 14 days) takes the power of a NASA booster rocket to get the space shuttle into orbit as it fights feverishly against gravity.
Only your gravity is the American Fat Train. You old habits, your coworkers, your family, old traditions, old solutions, and the constant barrage of marketing towards comfort I mentioned above.
Most of us (including me) don’t have the power of a NASA booster rocket.
I suffer the same external pressure as most of my clients to eat like a whack a doodle.
That is why I have to challenge myself, ask for support, and create games, otherwise I too…end up on the American Fat Train.
Still.. Its seems like will power and education should be enough…
In fact, most of my clients are really driven people who have done well in many areas of their life – but haven’t mastered the one thing that they need most – health and fitness. They may have built a hugely successful career, raised an incredible family, or contributed to society in some enormous way- but they’ve done it at the cost of their bodies.
And over the years, while training thousands of people, in various capacities – I’ve learned what works, what doesn’t work, what’s tolerable and what’s torture – and I’ve distilled that into the magic combination.
Satiated not hungry, just enough flavor, education for long term, mixed with the excitement of “game theory” (i.e. Fat Shocker 1400) allows people to do the most important thing…
TO ACTUALLY COMPLETE THE PROGRAM. Then, of course, they get those awesome results – love how they look and feel – and are excited for the next phase.
And as much as I love working with people one on one – there aren’t enough hours in the day to individually help everyone. So in my life… the way I regain focus…the way I get back up for the millionth time…the way I kick start the next 3 months of health and fitness is to do a crazy exciting challenge. Right now, it’s 50 days of Tarzan. This summer it was marathon training. Last year it was training for the AFM (Austin’s Fittest Man) Competition, and a Disney trip. It can be any number of things… but there has to be some kind of electricity to it. And it usually can’t be something I’ve already done.
So I’m sharing the exact program that I use to kick start the first 2 weeks of my $5000 a month kitchen sink clients – when we are trying to make as much progress as possible in as short of a timeframe as possible. I’ve been involved in the world of fitness for nearly two decades. I’m not big on bragging on myself – but I walk my talk. I’ve been practicing Body Sculpting and Fitness Improvement for 20 years. No one wants to learn from someone who says one thing and then does another.
I’m known for getting results. I’ve trained celebrities, including Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef, and Andy Cohen from Watch What Happens Live and the executive producer of the Real Housewives Television Program.
Austin has an event called The AFM Fittest, which is the Austin’s Fittest Man and Woman. I won the 30-39 age group at 39 in 2013 and then, in 2015, won the 40-49 age group at 41.

- Ranked in top 5% in the World for Crossfit Open Masters (40 to 45 years) 2014
- Completed my first Half Ironman in 5:32.
- Completed the Austin Marathon in 4:39.
- Sparred in Boxing ring against an MMA fighter for 2 rounds. He broke my nose in the 1st.
